JOAD Program Information
Archery is an excellent sport for children to participate in. Our JOAD program was
developed to provide youth with a safe, disciplined archery training program that
not only teaches the fundamentals of archery but also promotes fun and enjoyment
for the entire family.
PROGRAM CONTENT
Three aspects of archery safety:
1) Whistle Commands which dictate the flow of archers during their instruction lessons. 2) Shooting Safety Rules: a) Always walk to and from targets. b) Horseplay will not be tolerated. c) All shooters will shoot from the same shooting line. d) Non-shooters will stand behind the waiting line. e) Shoot at appropriate targets only. f) Always keep arrows aimed down range. g) Be careful when pulling arrows from the target making sure that no one is standing behind the arrow being pulled from the target. 3) Backyard safety when shooting away from class. Basic Archery Forms: Stance Anchor Nock Aim Set Release Pre-Draw Follow Through Sight In addition to the safety rules and basic forms, our JOAD Program also teaches the student scoring rules, and focuses on the qualities of good sportsmanship.
NEW RECOGNITION PROGRAM
This past spring we changed our recognition program for JOAD to be more aligned with the National Archery Association’s (NAA) JOAD Ranking System. Tepee’s program now includes NAA’s new “Stars” Recognition Program. The Achievement Levels are designed to motivate and challenge youth to develop their archery skills. Each archer advances at his or her own pace through the different levels. We now have two JOAD Achievement Boards hanging in our range that reflects the updated progress our young shooters are making. Be sure to check it out. Questions regarding this new recognition program should be referred to Eileen or Ceretha. .
CLASS SCHEDULE
We currently have two classes scheduled based on the age of the students. Each session
runs for six consecutive weeks.
Saturdays: 9:00AM to 10:30AM for Youth 12 and older. Saturdays: 11:00AM to 12:30 PM for Youth ages 8 to 11. The JOAD Program is not available to children under the age of 8 years old. Adults/Parents may participate as a student in the classes depending on space availability.
INTRODUCTION CLASS
Before a student can begin weekly lessons, he/she must attend a 45 minute JOAD Introduction
Class. The Introduction Class is counted as the first of the six lessons and involves
a review of safety rules, equipment fit-up and basic forms involved in the sport
of archery. This session is scheduled either during the week after school or on
Saturdays from 1:00 to 1:45 PM.

equipment rental during normal operating hours. Each student also receives a 10%
store discount on all archery equipment purchased for their own use.

it with the appropriate enrollment fee. A signed parental consent form is also required
at the time of enrollment.
At Tepee, our classes are taught in a student friendly atmosphere by Certified JOAD Instructors. We strive to provide the students with a working knowledge of the sport of archery so that the student can shoot safely and compete in tournaments if he or she desires. |
